We’ve finally determined our pricing…

It’s been interesting - trying to figure out what to charge. The common piercing fee in the area among quality studios averages about $50 per piercing. The shop we both previously worked had a $50 piercing fee, and both James and I felt it made the total price unaffordable for numerous clients. Of course, most who walked in were content with the price, but I’d say we lost 10-15% of clients to price. I also felt, as a middle class working parent, that it would be too expensive for myself, and if I wasn’t in the industry, I wouldn’t be able to afford those prices.
There is of course, the desire to pay piercers well for their job, and have a profitable business. I can’t knock shops who charge $50/piercing, it’s their business and if they can get away with it, I can’t say I blame them.
There has also been a trend in the industry, especially since COVID, that piercings by a trained professional are no longer a right for many people, being overpriced. There has even been piercers who claim piercings are not a right, but a privilege, and if you can’t afford it, tough luck.
When determining our pricing, we initially were going to stay at the average at $50/piercing. After some thought, research, and conversations with elder piercers, we decided on $40/piercing when we opened. Over the past few weeks of being open, we can see that we can afford to make this more affordable for clients, and we have determined our piercing fee will bee $35/piercing, with additional piercings being $25 each. We feel this is a good balance between super cheap, and super expensive. With the jewelry pricing, clients are able to get out the door well under $100 per piercing. With the most common jewelry, clients will be out around $60-$65 altogether for one piercing.
We aren’t the cheapest shop in the area, but we feel it’s an affordable price for the years of experience, quality of care, and quality of jewelry our clients will be provided. We really appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding while we figure out our pricing! Thank you!
